Julien Pacaud was self-taught. After studying cinematography at Louis Lumière School, he started experimenting with digital collage in the early 2000s. In addition to his personal creations, he has been working as an illustrator for the media, advertising and music industries since 2004.Julien Pacaud prefers instinct and waking dreams. He uses old photos collected, processed and assembled patiently to form surreal digital collages. Use computer software to replace scissors and glue, and give it the possibility of “organizing chaos.” Each of his works is creating a parallel universe, where the past and the future collide.

JULIEN PACAUD x SWATCH

Swatch is a fashion watch manufacturer headquartered in Biel, Bern, Switzerland. Julien created an illustration called “Vanishing Time” for Swatch and released a limited edition watch. Julien’s iconic surrealist style blends with Swatch’s brand spirit of youth trend.

JULIEN PACAUD x TAROT

Tarot cards are a set of divination cards that have been circulated throughout Europe since the mid-15th century, with a hint of mystery. Julien redesigned the images on 78 cards, combined with his own surrealistic collage, to reinterpret the original Rider-Waite version. The use of collage in the illustrations brings some modernity, while also respecting the meaning and symbols of each card as much as possible.

JULIEN PACAUD x RECORD COVERS

Julien has so far reached cooperation with more than a dozen pioneer musicians to create their album covers for them. Most of them are active in the fields of art and music, and they all hope to construct a surreal world through a method of artistic creation, which coincides with the surrealism pursued by Julien.

JULIEN PACAUD x VICTORIAN OPERA

Victoria Opera is an opera house located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The company was established by the Victorian Government in 2005, and its predecessor was the Victorian State Opera. Julien created the cover and inside page illustrations for the 2018 brochure, with the theme “Encounters”.
